Wine & Dine

The South East of England has a lot to offer in terms of food and drink, from seafood by the coast to Michelin-starred restaurants. It is also the wine capital of the UK, with numerous vineyards within easy reach of Newhouse Farm. In addition, there are many amazing producers and suppliers in the area, from farm shops selling groceries and fresh food to gin distilleries and micro-breweries. If you are looking to spoil yourself, then you are in for a treat with the Newhouse Farm Wine & Dine holiday. The 5-night extravaganza features private use of the 3-bedroom Oast which can accommodate up to six people.

On arrival, you will be welcomed with a glass of English sparkling wine from a local East Sussex vineyard. You will then be whisked away to The Middle House in nearby Mayfield for a wonderful welcome dinner. The Middle House is a Grade 1 listed building dating back to 1575. It was originally built for the financier, Sir Thomas Gresham, Keeper of the Privy Purse to Queen Elizabeth I. Today, it is an old world pub, impressive restaurant and small but cosy hotel. All the food is homemade and prepared to order, including all ice creams, sorbets, bread and desserts! Round-trip transfers are included so you can relax and enjoy your meal.

On day two, you will find a booklet on the Oast bookshelf with six Furlongs-inspired day-trips. Each itinerary includes a suggested route and timings, landmarks, local attractions, and café and pub recommendations. You can use these as a basis for planning your day out, or just pick out one or two highlights. One of our favourite itineraries includes a visit to nearby Scotney Castle and Goudhurst, with an afternoon spent at our local Pashley Manor Gardens. Whatever your plans, Richard and Dawn will today prepare a magnificent cheese and charcuterie board for you to enjoy at your preferred time, in the comfort of your Oast lounge or alfresco in the garden.

On day three, you will have the opportunity to cook your very own dinner, inspired and designed by Rick Stein, the British chef, restaurateur, cookery book author and television presenter. The menu and all ingredients are prepared in advance, so all you have to do is open the box, follow the simple cooking and plating instructions, and dine. It's fun and great quality!

By day four, you may need to pace yourself, but you won't go hungry because you are invited to join Richard and Dawn for Afternoon Tea, with a choice of wine, local beer, or perhaps a local G&T? And you can walk home, because their farmhouse is just across the garden from the Oast!

On day five, you can select another Furlongs day-trip or perhaps book a gin tasting at nearby Mousehall Country Estate. And for your final evening, dinner is included at the Lazy Fox, a renowned pub/restaurant, specialising in locally-sourced ingredients, and quality wines and beers. Situated at Mark Cross, just 5 minutes' drive, the Lazy Fox boasts a beautiful setting with far-reaching views across the countryside. Again, round-trip transfers are included.

On day six, you can enjoy a leisurely checkout.
